Byron Burford was an artist and writer. He studied with Grant Wood in Iowa, where he struck up a friendship with Kurt Vonnegut (as my best friend met Kurt Vonnegut, that means I’m two people away from Byron in the Kevin Bacon game — very useful…). You can see examples of his work on various auction sites, as well as, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Stanley Museum of Art.
Burford made one post office mural: Post Near Houston, Natchez, 1803 (Houston, Mississipp).
